Phantom Energy

We love those little red, green and blue lights and the clocks on everything that isn’t moving. A touch of the remote or the mouse and we’re off and running.

What things, you’re wondering? How about most electronics, including rechargeable battery-powered cordless phones, cell phones, digital cameras, DVDs and music players, power tools and anything else that gets “charged.” The clock on the microwave is quietly using energy.

That convenience comes at a cost and the only way to stop these gadgets from making your meter spin is to unplug them. And that can be very, very easy.

Simply plug electronics into a power strip and flip it off when leaving. Leaving these devices on is similar to leaving the lights on when away from home, and we wouldn’t do that.
