Take this online home energy audit and see where you can save on your energy costs and your home’s carbon footprint. Use this site’s No and Low Cost Tips to start saving energy and money:

Online Home Energy Audit

Before scheduling an audit with Platte-Clay’s certified energy auditor, take these steps to energy efficiency and see if your energy costs drop.

1. Caulk and seal the air leaks in their homes, usually found around windows and doors and where surfaces meet, such as corners and the rim joist. Seal heating and cooling ducts.

2. Add attic insulation to at least R-38; R-49 will save members even more. (See energystar.gov for more information.)

3. Add wall insulation to at least R-11.

4. Change lights to compact fluorescents (CFLs) or LEDs and turn them off when not in use.

6. Put electronics—such as televisions, chargers and games on a power strip and turn off when not in use.

7. Install and use a programmable thermostat.

8. Replace aging appliances with the highest Energy Star rated ones available. The Energy Star ratings tend to lag behind the best available energy efficient models.

9. Replace an aging heating and cooling unit with an energy efficient geothermal or dual fuel unit.

10. Landscape for shade on the south side of your home; wind breaks on the north and west side of your home.
